*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ COMING SOON...VIRTUAL DAY CAMP! We, at for Kids Naturely, are in the planning stages of a Virtual or Cyber Day Camp for your kids. The purpose, just like any camp, would be to provide activities in the outdoors that are fun and educational.
Watch your e-mail. Early next week we will be sending out a survey to find out what you think - would you be interested, would your kids be interested, and most important, what would you like to see as part of this Day Camp.
And of course, just like Nature Notebook, participation would be free!
If you have any ideas that you would like to share right now, we'd be interested in hearing them. Write to: camp@naturely.com

As We Leaf
The end of the school year is bittersweet for many children. Some miss the friends and companions, others the rhythm of the day.
This week's activity has a craft slant to it as well as having the children learn how to give and accept compliments or affirmations for the things they've done during the past year.

Are We Losing Our Tigers?
Although the New York Times has written about the recovery of the tiger, other groups are saying that the tiger may be nearing extinction.
The number of tigers living today is estimated around 5,000 - 7,000. Many believe that there were over 100,000 tigers at the beginning of the twentieth century.
In some countries, the tiger was a threat to the farmer, and eliminated. In other countries, the tiger's environment is being encroached on by power plants, coal mines, and dams.
Some countries are making an effort to put in tiger sanctuaries. Only time will tell whether or not the tiger will survive. For more information, http://www.environmentaldefense.org/pubs/emagazine/2000/tiger.html

Bees
There are at least 19,000 species of bees, with the honeybee and the bumblebee as the most common. Both the honeybees and bumblebees live in colonies; the bumblebee in the ground and the honeybee in hollow trees and hives.
Bees are very important since they pollinate more flowers than any other insect. This is very important, so important that honeybees were imported from Europe in the 1600s to pollinate crops.
Bees pollinate by collecting the pollen from the flowers on the hairs of her body. When she visits another plant, the pollens mix and pollination can occur.
When a bumblebee finds food and returns to the nest, she "dances" to let the other bees know where the food is. She gives directions by wiggling!

5. Questions and Answers *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
If you have a nature question, mailto: question@naturely.com We will answer the questions in the next issue of Nature Notebook.
Q. Our son is very interested in snakes. How safe are the snakes sold in pet stores?
A. As a person who doesn't care to see snakes, let alone have one in my house, I called my vet for the answer to this question.
His guidelines on snakes is very simple. Although the snakes sold through pet stores are non-poisonous, they may inflict a bite if they are not handled properly. People can be allergic to snake bites, much like some people are allergic to bee stings
He does not recommend them as pets unless your son is at least 14 years old and understands the responsibilities involved. As a precaution, keep a heavy object on the aquarium lid. Snakes have been know to lift lids and slither out.
Good luck, and I hope you like snakes as much as your son.
