Virtual or Cyber Day Camp for your kids. The purpose, just 
like any camp, would be to provide activities in the 
outdoors that are fun and educational.

interested, would your kids be interested, and most 
important, what would you like to see as part of this Day 
Camp.

Night Sight
Even seasoned campers can be scared of the dark. If they don't 
have their trusty flashlight, they won't go out. The biggest 
fear that most kids have is the inability to see. Is this really 
true? Do only owls, bats, and other nocturnal animals see in the 
dark?
This activity takes at least a half-hour, but at the end, your 
kids will be confident to venture out in the dark.

Habitat Degradation
Sometimes, when a species' habitat is destroyed or becomes 
unusable, the species may adapt to its surroundings. The 
remarkable return of the Bluebird is one example.
On the other hand, some species cannot adapt. The Red-Cockaded 
woodpecker is one. This bird is the most discriminating about 
where it lives. It chooses a live, large, southern pine with 
little or no hardwoods around. Suitable habitat for this bird
is rare.
Ninety-eight percent of the original 60 million acres of 
longleaf pine in the Southeast have been destroyed. This put 
the woodpecker's survival into peril.

Wetlands
There is much confusion about what constitutes a wetland. Some 
people think it is a marsh, others a pond, and still others 
think is it a swamp.
The definition of a wetland is a natural area that holds water. 
It can be large or small, present all year or only part of the 
year. The important thing is - it is home to many kinds of plants 
and animals.
Wetlands are also important to people. The composition of a 
wetland makes it a filter for runoff water. The clean water then 
enters our streams, lakes, and ground water.

Q. Do flying squirrels really fly?
A. No, not really. These mammals have membranes that are 
attached to their legs. When stretched out, they can parachute 
or glide from the trees to the ground.  Unfortunately, because 
they do not fly, the only way to get back up into the tree is 
to climb.
